Respiration in mollusca , long qustion answer in simple word in +3 zoology students.
↞RESPIRATION IN
MOLLUSCA
- Mollusce
is a large phylum of invertebrate animal.
- Mollusca are the
largest marine phylum about 23% of all merine organism .
The respiration bring about the
utilization of O2 whitin the body and given out of CO2
outside.
- Respiretory
organ in mullusca, these are,
- Ctenidia are
the organs of aquatic respiratory and it
is present in aquatic mollusca.
- The pulmonary
chamber is the organ of aerial respiration and is present in terrestrial
mollusca.
- But in certain
cases in pila , planorbis etc, both methords of respiration are used .
- It is simplest
methord in mollusca.
- Ctenidia
respiration through skin.
STRUCTURE OF
CTENIDIA
- The ctenidium
has a cintrol axis one or two rows of filamets.
- The entair gill
is sourounded by cilia.
- The ctenidium
receives venous blood through an affarent branchial vein and after the
oxygenation , back through efferent branchial vein.
NUBERS OF GILLS;
The number of
gill is vary from 1-80 in different classes of mollusca.
TYPES OF GILLS
In mollusca
following types of ctenidia are seen.
1. MONOPENTINATE
- This type of gill filament arrenged in a
single row or one side of the axis.
EX- Pila
2.BIPECTINATE
- This type of gills filament arrenged in a two
rows on thr side of central axis.
EX- Mytilus
3.PLICATE GILLS
- These are
transvers folds of integument.
4.HOLOBRANCHS
- In mollusca the ctenidia extend all over the
body such gill are called holobranchs.
EX- Chitten ,
Patella
5.MEROBRANCHS
- In mollusca the ctenidia extended a
particular area of the body is called as merobranchs.
6.SECONDARY
GILLS
- In some mollusca true gills are absent but
certain other stracture function as gill is called as secondary gills or adoptive
gill.
- They are the following,
a. Anal gills-
gills present around the anus.
b. Cerata- these
are cylindrical vascular body located on the dorsal surface.
c. Pallial gills-
Gills arranged in single row around the foot.
MECHANISM
OF AQUATIC RESPIRATION
- The movement of water is effected through the
mantle cavity the beating of cilia.
- Each ctenidium contain both afferent and
efferent blood vessels.
- The ctenidium receives deoxygenated blood
from body of animal through the efferent blood vessel.
PULMONARY
RESPIRATION:
- Polmonary sac or longs present in terestirial
or land mollusca.
- When the pulmonary sac is used for respiration, this respiration is called as pulmonary respiration.
- Polmonary sac is back like structure found in
mantle cavity.
- Mantle cavity by a opening is called
polmonary aperrature.
- The wall of polmonary sac reachly supplied
with blood vessels.
MECHANISM IN POLM
ONARY RESPIRATION
- In respiration air is used.
- Air entar the polmonary chamber through left
pseudopodium.
- During contration of air ,air passes into
polmonary chamber from polmonary from pomonary sac.
- The blood of polmonary sac take in o2 fom air at
given out co2.
